“When I woke from my dreaming, my idol was clay…”
Hi! I'm Katie Maciocha, the potter behind It's OK Clay.
I’ve always been drawn to modern art and specifically abstraction, where I find my inspiration. My work is handmade, mainly on a pottery wheel. I like to throw severe shapes and angles, then hand-paint each piece.
When I’m not at my wheel, I’m gardening, resulting in my desire to make botanic vessels.
I have an affinity for fashion that’s stylish, but also comfortable. I love making original accessories for anyone to routinely wear.
As I look back on my journey in clay creativity, my work had been produced in mostly neutral tones, but recently I’ve added pops of bold colors and a whole new artistic voice has emerged. I see my pedestal planters, as conceptual reflections of me and craft them to stand out on their own, as statements of art that complement a space.
I was born in Fort Lauderdale, raised in the suburbs of Washington, DC, then spent many years in Brooklyn, only to come back to where I truly call home—the Petworth neighborhood of D.C.
Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. I love talking process.
